You dont have to be incredibly crafty or a joiner to make something from wood. especially personalised gifts or items for around your home.

Whether its a small project or something you intend on spending alot of time with there are some basic items that can make your life easier. Now all these items are dependant on which project you are doing and what you will really need, however are also very handy items to have for crafting and general fixing jobs.

You can gather scrap wood from lots of random places, asking a local joiner or collecting pallets to use the wood. Some people who advertise firewood on facebook marketplace or any spare wood for pick up. Free materials are ideal and if you dont like the final product then its nothing monetary wasted apart from your time. If anything its experience gained.

If you are lucky enough to have access to power tools there are some favourites that are super handy for any job. They can also be picked up second hand online, which is ideal for someone starting out who is unsure of whether they will use them enough.

My favourites for each job is a jigsaw, a Mitre saw a mouse sander and a power drill. All of which I have aquired second hand online or from family and friends.

My Papa says that you should buy cheap and if you use it enough to break it then its worth spending some decent money on.

Any idea you have, its best first to draw out a design to see how it will all fit together. You may be planning to make it all join together seamlessly using special joints or you may just plan for the bits to just be put together with glue and screws or nails. Whatever the idea its best to have a plan.

Heres a few basic ideas to get started.
